“Before We Run” may be the final track off of Yo La Tengo’s new LP, Fade, but it’s the first single the Jersey-based band has released thus far. In a press release Matador compares Fade to the band’s 1997 release, the cult favorite, I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One, and though only time will tell if this statement is accurate, “Before We Run” is certainly a promising preview of the album.

The song showcases YLT’s signature sound: sweet and shoegazey with soft guitar and dreamy drum beats. It’s accompanied by a charmingly animated video by Emily Hubley, featuring multicolored polka dots flickering and dancing atop an overgrown tree. Check it out, below.

Fade will be released January 15, 2013 on Matador Records. A Deluxe LP is available for preorder on the Matador site printed on rainbow foil and with a bonus 7″ containing two covers: “I Saw The Light” by Todd Rundgren and “Move to California” by Times New Viking. The deluxe edition also includes a MP3 download featuring an additional untitled 11 minute bonus track!

Yo La Tengo will support the new release with a North American tour with Arizona indie rockers Calexico.
