Unknown Mortal OrchestraPortland-based indie band Unknown Mortal Orchestra has been hard at work since the release of its debut LP in 2011. Having recently signed with Jagjaguwar, Unknown Mortal Orchestra also broke ground working on the followup to its self-titled album. In honor of these achievements, as well as a North American tour, Unknown Mortal Orchestra has released “Swim And Sleep (Like A Shark),” a song that will appear on the new album as well as on UMO’s tour-only 7” release.

Ruban Nielson’s mist of harmless, soft-spoken vocals on “Swim And Sleep (Like A Shark)” clears the mind of any worries or woes. Adding to the calming effect are Nielson’s lo-fi, airy guitar licks, plucking the strings ever so lightly as if he were scared that strumming any harder would cause one to snap, while bassist Jacob Portrait and drummer Greg Rogrove fasten the runny ’60s-reminiscent melodies with a heavy bassline and moderate drumbeat.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra will be supporting Grizzly Bear during the East Coast branch of its tour, which includes the Radio City Music Hall show. As for now, let the dreamy riffs of “Swim And Sleep (Like A Shark)” envelop you on this gloomy afternoon, and maybe you too can sleep (like a shark).
