The Brooklyn brood-rock kingpins of the National will release their sixth studio album, Trouble Will Find Me, on May 21 via 4AD, and today the group shared the first single from the album. It’s called “Demons,” and it’s all about the group’s morose frontman Matt Berninger battling a horde of snarling hell beasts sent through a mirror-like portal by Lucifer himself.

JK, it’s totally about Berninger facing his inner demons and delivering lyrics like, “I am secretly in love with everyone I grew up with” in his boozy barritone. There’s a line about buzzards in the sky and alligators in the sewers, but we’re still pretty far from Reign In Blood territory. It’s a hushed, string-filled piece of chilling chamber pop, and it comes with this spiffy video of an artist painting the record’s elegant artwork. Check it out below.
