After the success of Dye It Blonde in 2011, Chicago garage-rockers Smith Westerns will return to center stage with their new album, Soft Will, due out June 11 via Mom And Pop. The trio reconnected with producer Chris Coady (Beach House, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV On The Radio) in Texas, where most of the recording occurred, though additional work was done in New York as well.
 
The 10th and final track on the album, “Varsity, has been released as the first single off of Soft Will. The song kicks off with a synth-driven melody and a shambling beat before you hear Cullen Omori singing about “counting the days and nights” in his breathy, youthful croon. It’s a slightly more precise and expanded take on the widescreen romantic pop sound the band explored on its last album, so if you liked that one, this should be in your wheelhouse. The group is set to hit California next month where it will play Coachella along with a show at the Echo. Check out the tour dates and the Soft Will tracklisting below.
