With his major label debut Oxymoron set for release later this year, Black Hippy member ScHoolboy Q has whet our appetites yet again, with the release of his new single “Collard Greens.” Lyrically, “Collard Greens” stays true to Q’s form, revolving around little other than the ubiquitous P.M.W. (It appears as though Schoolboy has yet to kick those Habits And Contradictions).

However, his gleeful lyrics in no way indicate that the West Coast rapper isn’t poised to grab the torch from his buddy and Black Hippy cohort Kendrick Lamar. In fact, in an interview with 2 Dope Boyz ScHoolboy Q admitted, “Kendrick left me no choice but to make a classic record. I’m not about to out an album that’s just okay.” This sort of friendly ‘anything-you-can-do-I-can-do-better’ rivalry deserves a smile, and anyway, it leads to some great music. Decide for yourself how classic “Collard Greens” is by listening to the track, below.
