Frontman of Oberhofer, Brad Oberhofer, has released an unanticipated cover of Nelly’s 2000 track Luven Me, via Noisey. The cover is some kind of defense of pop music by Oberhofer, who explained that he wanted to make the point that pop music doesn’t necessarily have to be “carefree or brainless.” His style and sound weirdly resemble Nelly’s own, with a little euphoric, indie twist. Nelly fan or not, this track is a nice reminder from an indie frontrunner that relevance is arbitrary, even 12 years after the gentrification of Nellyville.
