Things have been a little quiet around my eardrums recently. That’s why I’m excited Brooklyn foursome Heliotropes have released another track, Quatto, off their upcoming LP, A Constant Sea, out June 18 via Manimal Vinyl. The song was initially titled “Joy Unfolds,” but the band changed the name to sound like “Kuato,” the gross, parasitic baby-monster in Total Recall (for the love of God, don’t Google it if you’re eating). It’s an appropriate name though, because the track growls and pulses and feels a little gory, just like something that would grow out of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s stomach.

Quatto opens with buzzing guitars and Jessica Numsuwankijkul’s Poly Styrene-eque howl and continues to ebb and flow, smashing your head into a wall of sound before gently cradling you into a lull, and back again. The band (who played the CMJ Marathon last year, by the way) released the similarly dizzying Psalms about a month ago. Brace yourself for the onslaught, and listen to Quatto, below.
