CMJ Music Marathon And Festival is seeking a Panel Director to develop and direct event content for the 2013 conference panel program.

CMJ Music Marathon is the largest annual music event in New York City with over 1,400 artists playing at 80 venues to 120,000 fans. The conference, scheduled to run October 15-18, features over 100 panels and workshops and 400 panelists.

Qualifications: Applicants must be fully up to speed on the nature of today’s evolving music and media business, possess a wide-ranging set of industry relationships and be passionate about building dynamic programming for the conference attendees.

Panel topics to be programmed include the emerging music industry and its artists, music marketing, digital technology and culture, songwriting, promotion, rights-based issues, production/engineering, social networking, music supervision, commercial, public and college radio (terrestrial, satellite and internet), music law, publishing, licensing, and the international music landscape, as well as related cultural, technological and political topics.

Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize, design and implement panel content
  • Research and outreach to appropriate representatives and speakers for panelist and moderator placement
  • Review and placement of appropriate panelist and panel content submissions
  • Assist festival Executive Producer in determining speakers and panels
  • Coordinate logistics of festival venues and facilities with planning staff
  • Manage a staff to execute a conference that hosts thousands of attendees

    Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years professional experience with music industry conferences or related field
  • Extensive knowledge of current and relevant media issues, developments and entities in the topics covered in panel programming
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Strong copywriting skills and communication skills
  • Experience managing a staff during a conference

    Time Commitment:

  • This position will be full-time in CMJ’s offices in NYC from April 1 through the end of October.
