Seattle-based rock trio Helms Alee is releasing a new album this June, the first since its critically acclaimed 2008 debut, Night Terror. The trio of guitarist Ben Verellen, bassist Dana James and drummer Hozoji Matheson-Margullis also has plans for an extensive North American tour to promote the new release, titled Weatherhead.

Verellen tells CMJ that the upcoming LP “is the product of three years drilling on riffs, melodies and vocal harmonies.” Helms Alee’s sound is reminiscent of the pre-grunge days of Seattle rock ’n’ roll, but the heavy rock group’s coed singing softens things up with some pretty killer harmonies on Weatherhead. “Every song on the record is a collaboration between the three of us,” Verellen says. “We worked to make the record flow from start to finish, no song sounding anything like any other song on the record but all of them sounding like us.”

Helms Alee kicks off its summer tour with a headlining show June 7 in Seattle to celebrate the release of the new album. After that, the band heads on an exhaustive 29-date tour across the country supporting Torche and Big Business. Weatherhead will be available June 21 on Hydra Head. You can hear a stream of the single “Elbow Grease” here. Check below for a full list of summer tour dates.
