New York dance-punk band Heartsrevolution has been in the studio working on its upcoming LP, Ride Or Die, slated for release on 11/11/11 (make a wish!). But in the meantime, the group has thrown its fans some fresh meat in the form a new mixtape called ARE WE HAVING FUN YET?. It’s almost like a rap mixtape, except instead of flowing over beats, Heartsrevolution yells in song over the original tracks, which have been revved up to a driving, pulse-raising mood that makes it impossible to answer the question posed by the title in anything but the affirmative.

The standout is “Life Will Tear Us Apart,” where the face-paint aficionados take Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart” for an emphatic spin that channels the heartfelt, well-wishing vibes of LCD Soundsystem’s “All My Friends.” Elsewhere, the group throws stuff by Marilyn Manson, Pink Floyd, and Flock Of Seagulls into the mix. Hey, anything that pairs Jay Z’s “99 Problems” with singing from Disney’s “The Parent Trap” is worth your time, if only for curiosity’s sake.
