CMJ 2011 artist Gotye has had a meteoric rise missed by practically nobody. The Belgian-born Australian singer-songwriter struck upon a stellar hit single with “Somebody That I Used To Know,” which has over 160 million views on YouTube. So, it should come as no surprise that the rising artist took the stage of Saturday Night Live this weekend.

Far from pulling an LDR, Gotye commanded NBC’s theater with his smooth, belting voice and was joined not only by an exceptionally tight band but by fellow vocal powerhouse Kimbra. A xylophone and slide guitar were among the instruments to put the off-kilter into Gotye’s particular brand of pop, and the singer joined the band with a synth trigger and some percussion. He also performed another single from Making Mirrors, “Eyes Wide Open.” Check out that stream below.
