Frenchkiss, label home to the Hold Steady, the Dodos, the Antlers and other indie-rock luminaries, has announced a partnership with music and video distribution company the Orchard to create the Frenchkiss Label Group (FKLG). According to a press release, the company will “serve as a place for developing labels to transform into developed labels,” while also seeking to emulate the stylistic core of Frenchkiss defined by founder Syd Butler, bassist of the art-rock band Les Savy Fav.

While Frenchkiss was created in 1999 for the initial purpose of releasing Les Savy Fav’s second album, the Orchard was founded in 1997 in an effort to provide multiple platforms for independent artists to distribute and monetize their music. “Playing music and operating a successful music label is what I know and love,” says Butler in a press release. “The Frenchkiss Label Group presents an opportunity for developing labels to learn from my achievements and mistakes.”

In addition to digitally distributing Frenchkiss music, the Orchard will now also handle physical distribution. The creation of FKLG will mean that any label signed to FKLG will receive distribution through the Orchard.
