Guitarists James Elkington and Nathan Salsburg have sonically united the U.S. and the U.K. with the release of their collaborative album, Avos, a collection of acoustic guitar duets. Elkington, a London native living in Chicago and former bandleader of the Zincs, pitched the idea for Avos to Salsburg without ever having jammed together before, and thus the youngest and cutest guitar duo since Hot Tuna came to be (well, Kaukonen, not Casady).*

Salsburg, the Kentucky-born host of East Village Radio’s “Root Hog Or Die” program in New York, producer of the Alan Lomax Archive of American folk and curator of the Drag City imprint Twos And Fews, worked on the album with Elkington out of his Louisville, KY, hometown and Elkington’s current city of residence. Together, the two composed 35 minutes of winding, intricate and rural duets. Salsburg and Elkington selected the album title of Avos, a Russian word signifying courage in new situations, as a mark of optimism for their collaboration.

The duo is currently planning a tour that kicks off with its record release show in Chicago on October 9.
