Clap Your Hands Say Yeah will be short two members following their free show at New York’s CBGB Festival tomorrow. Guitarist and keyboard player Robbie Guertin and bassist Tyler Sargent have both released statements saying they plan to leave the group following the NYC show (thanks to Stereogum for the tip).
It has been a bit of a shock to fans, as the news of each band member’s exit has come separately—Guertin announcing his earlier this week, while Sargent held off until today. Both musicians posted statements (“Thank You!” and “Thank you, part 2”) on the band’s website, each bidding their farewell to fans and wishing the best for the rest of the CYHSY members, while still keeping things light.
“I will continue to make music with my other band, Radical Dads, pursue miscellaneous artistic endeavors, and also grow some vegetables. I am excited to see what else might come my way. Maybe some tomatoes?” Guertin said in his statement.
As for Sargent, he wishes Robbie, “the best of luck with his musical and horticultural endeavours,” and is “currently in the process of forming a presidential exploratory committee for 2016.”
