After disbanding nearly 10 years ago, Japanese experimental duo Cibo Matto has reunited to record a new album and embark on a North American tour this summer. Recently, Cibo Matto teamed up to play a few impromptu benefit concerts in New York for Japanese aid and earthquake relief.

New York-based Miho Hatori and Yuka C. Honda, known for writing quirky, genre-bending tunes primarily about food, are working on a new album set for release in early 2012. This will be their first full-length album since 1999’s Stereo Type A. In anticipation of the reunion, the band has released a teaser video of what you can expect from its new material.

The Yeah Basically Cibo Matto reunion tour kicks off in Seattle on June 21 for a five-show stint on the West Coast before picking up in mid-July for a series of dates across the East Coast and Canada. You can expect to hear a lot of new music as well as old ’90s mainstays from the alterna-pop pair.

Check below for Cibo Matto’s full list of dates this summer, and expect the group to stream some new songs on its website before it drops the full-length in 2012.
