Chancha Via Circuito, the stage name of Argentine producer Pedro Canale, is releasing his second album, Rio Arriba, worldwide March 29. Released via ZZK, the album will be available in CD and vinyl formats.
Chancha Via Circuito specializes in cumbia digital, a version of a rhythmic South American genre that is heavy on the electronics. When you think of indigenous music interpolated into electronic music, the horrifying spectacle of the omnipresent “house beat + Eastern strings” comes to mind. But Rio Arriba’s treatment of cumbia digital resists focusing on pounding dance beats, resulting in a more leisurely and idiosyncratic record.
Chancha Via Circuito will be on tour in the United States this April. Tour dates follow, as well as a streamable version of Rio Arriba.
