Although the nomadic folk artist Cass McCombs never stays long in one place and constantly churns out music, the Northern California native is not always touring. However, at the beginning of the New Year he will be taking his material on the North American road for his “most extensive tour yet.”

His wanderlust existence and equally sporadic musical leanings, which span from country to soul, were profiled for the cover story of The Fader‘s upcoming issue. Even six-and-a-half albums into a decade-long career, McCombs hasn’t settled on a specific sound or location, nor has he pursued much attention from the press and public. Nevertheless, his material has attracted the attention of enough people to book New York’s Bowery Ballroom and Chicago’s Lincoln Hall for this winter’s tour. After a few dates on the western side of the States, McCombs will be rolling out with Frank Fairfield. Even after releasing two albums in 2011—those would be Wit’s End and Humor Risk—McCombs hasn’t run out of steam.
