After a winter club tour that inspired attendees to get down with their bad selves, the Budos Band will play shows through the Midwest, with one in Pennsylvania, starting in April. Supporting its 2010 release, The Budos Band III (Daptone), the 10-piece of horn-driven funk-rockers is ready for more hot, sweaty, dance-filled evenings along with supporting act Charles Bradley, who will be backed by some of the Budos themselves.
Meshing what the band calls “psychedelic doom-rock” with Afro-soul, the Budos Band’s third album was recorded live on analog tape over 48 hours. The group has honed its sound in playing more than 150 shows through 2008 and 2009, forming a lasting bond that’s been going strong since its start in 2003. Being an instrumental group, the Budos have found unusual success, selling 30,000-plus albums, touring as far as Canada and Europe, and playing festivals worldwide.
The Budos Band’s collaborative efforts have paid off, finding itself placed on a number of “Best Of 2010” lists for The Budos Band III, scoring placements for TV, film and video games, and being sampled in hip-hop tracks. The group’s spring tour begins in mid-April in Cleveland, OH, and lasts until the end of April.
