Black Francis, best known as the frontman of seminal alternative rock band Pixies, is about to launch an acoustic tour. The singer-songwriter and guitarist will spend July crossing the country as he performs songs from his 20-year career in nine different cities.

Black Francis, born Charles Michael Kittridge Thompson IV, has gone through quite a few different names. He used his current stage name with Pixies, but then adopted the name Frank Black when he began his solo career after the band’s breakup in 1993. After releasing two solo albums, he added a backing band and recorded as Frank Black And The Catholics. In 2007, he re-adopted Black Francis and his last album, NonStopErotik, was released in 2010 (confusing much?).

In September, Francis and singer-songwriter Reid Paley will release a new album of songs that they wrote and performed together under the name Paley And Francis.
