It may be the middle of February, but Dana Buoy (real name: Dana Janssen) is thinking of summer love. Buoy, best known as the percussionist of beloved freak-folk collective Akron/Family, will release his debut LP, Summer Bodies, in May via Lefse Records.

Crafted on a laptop in a Thailand bungalow and inspired by a series of hopeful love messages left on Buoy’s answering machine, the record will incorporate elements of dream-pop, afro-beat, and what Buoy refers to as “Tropicore.” While the musical affair will be mostly joyful, look for traces of loneliness to permeate the sonic-sphere: during the recording process Buoy and his engineer were cut off from the rest of the world by an earthquake and Hurricane Irene.
