In 2010, when venerated NYC alt-weekly, the Village Voice, announced their annual Siren Fest was moving from Coney Island to South Street Seaport in Manhattan and changing its name to 4Knots Music Festival, most worried the fest would lose, uh, something. Well, it turns out that most don’t miss the anti-shade and sardine can environs of the former site, and the whole nautical surroundings of the new location are pretty fun. Not to mention that each year the Voice puts together a solid lineup of noteable indie noise, and it’s still FREE. A couple more acts will be announced later, but today the mag let out the initial lineup, as follows: The Julie Ruin, Those Darlins, Speedy Ortiz, Radkey, Viet Cong, Nude Beach and Juan Wauters. Nice. The all-day soiree will take place Saturday, July 12, and there’ll be an after-party at Webster Hall, with a lineup yet to be announced. All aboard!
