John Simson has been in the music industry since his signing as a singer-songwriter in 1971. He recorded his debut album in London and is currently working on songs for his sophomore follow-up. Simson has practiced entertainment law since 1980, managed recording artists as a partner in Studio One, from 1988-1997 and most recently served as the Executive Director of SoundExchange from 2001-2010. Simson helped brand and launch the organization and oversaw it's first 10 years of operations. He is currently a special advisor to Kobalt Music Publishing for the collection of artist and independent label royalties around the World. He also teaches music industry classes at American University's Kogod School of Business and is a frequent lecturer and panelist on cutting edge music industry legal and business issues. He has been featured on NBC Nightly News, Marketplace, the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and many other media outlets.He is currently "of counsel" to the firm Lommen Abdo with offices in New York, D.C. and Minneapolis, serving a wide range of clients in the entertainment industry.
