Hadrian Katz specializes in cases with high technology content. He is experienced in issues relating to computer architecture and software, and has represented high technology firms in significant litigations involving technical computer standards, beginning with the challenge to the IBM block multiplex channel FIPS in 1979, and including the challenge to the mandatory government UNIX specifications in 1987. Most recently, Mr. Katz has represented content owners in cases relating to the protection of intellectual property on the Internet. He served as lead trial counsel in UMG Recordings, Inc. v. MP3.com, Inc., obtaining the largest statutory damages award received under the Copyright Act.
