Razor & Tie

CLIFF CHENFELD is the Co-CEO of Razor & Tie, an independent music company and Kidz Bop, a kids’ music, marketing and digital platform. Founded in 1990, Razor & Tie has scored a number of Gold and Platinum albums and now includes a record label as well as publishing, media buying and video divisions. In 2001, Razor & Tie launched Kidz Bop which has since become the most popular kids music series in the country and a leading on-line presence. Mr. Chenfeld has been the executive producer of a number of movies including the comedy Serious Moonlight and the documentary How Sweet The Sound. Prior to founding Razor & Tie, Mr. Chenfeld clerked for Federal District Court Judge I. Leo Glasser in Brooklyn and then joined Sullivan & Cromwell as a litigation associate. Mr. Chenfeld received his BA in Political Science from The Ohio State University and his JD from New York University School of Law.

Cliff Chenfeld, the Co-CEO of Razor & Tie and Kidz Bop, started Razor + tie in 1990 with his law school classmate Craig Balsam.

Operating out of Chenfeld’s apartment for the first two years, the company achieved quick success and within 2 years, had earned a Gold Record for the album Disco Fever.

Settling into offices in Greenwich Village, the company expanded in the 1990s to include publishing, media buying and home video units. During the 1990s, the company scored a number of Gold and Platinum albums.

In 2001, Razor & Tie created Kidz Bop, a CD series aimed at the tween market. The series was an instant smash and quickly became the best selling kids music series in the country. Since 2001, Kidz Bop has sold over 13 million units and has expanded to include a successful website and personalities as well as a robust marketing, distribution and advertising platform.

Today Razor & Tie is one of the most successful independently owned companies in the country. With over 60 employees, the company is growing rapidly in a challenging environment. Recently the company has achieved great success with a variety of rock bands (All That Remains, P.O.D) and publishing interests (#1 song “God Gave Me You.”)

In addition to owning and running Razor & Tie and Kidz Bop, Chenfeld was also the Executive Producer of two recent movies – Serious Moonlight, starring Meg Ryan and Timothy Hutton and How Sweet The Sound, an American Masters/PBS documentary on Joan Baez.
