Latterday garage greats Thee Oh Sees added some serious sweat to the Northside Festival last weekend, when they hit the makeshift stage at McCarren Park in Williamsburg this past Saturday afternoon. It was one of those pretty full outdoor shows where if you hung towards the back, it seemed like a solid set, between trying to see over the crowd and/or chatting with pals. But had you tried to inch your way down front, it seethed like a mini-riot.

Those downfront inchers went absolutely crazy, with security holding tight on the fences in front of the stage the whole show. After their official blink-and-you-missed-it “hiatus” a few months back, Thee Oh Sees have already released another album, and this show featured a whole new lineup behind leader John Dwyer. That might’ve explained the somewhat lackadaisical set (for Thee Oh Sees at least). But again, all those crowd surfers were not complaining. Having a solid lineup of openers like the Blind Shake and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard didn’t hurt either.
