As per their website, Supper Studio is a hybrid pop-up event showcasing live music performances and a multicourse meal where ingredients are paired with the artist’s song stylings. An experiment of sorts, Supper Studio brings you creative food that’s connected to innovative music in an intimate environment.
The latest Supper Studio event took place at a little space on W. 23rd in Manhattan yesterday, and featured the florid indie rock sounds of TEEN. The four-piece is made up of songwriter Teeny Lieberson (formerly of Here We Go Magic), her sisters Lizzie and Katherine and new bassist Boshra AlSaadi. Their most recent EP, Carolina, is a little more brittle than their 2012 debut full-length, In Limbo (Carpark). But their harmonized vocals and echoey guitars didn’t disrupt the digestion of the food that was gobbled down around their songs.
They played two songs before dinner and two songs before dessert. The menu featured curried pumpkin and mushroom soup; lamb tacos; beet, fennel, and pomegranate slaw; Lambrusco, rose chocolate truffel and more. The menu was designed as a nod to the band’s psychedelic influences, their combination of an east coast/west coast vibe and their mix of natural and synthetic sounds that make up the core of their music.
TEEN will have their new record ready by March, 2014. Any delays cannot be blamed on starvation after this yummy affair.
