Last night’s Team Clermont showcase at Union Pool was a celebration of old styles given new life. The event was headlined by retro-pop songwriter Matthew E. White and his rather large band, who packed a three-piece horn section onto the bar’s compact stage. Having opened for the Mountain Goats on Tuesday night as part of a CMJ show at the Bowery Ballroom, White was eager to tear into tracks from his recently released album Big Inner.

White was preceded by garage-rock group Opossom, pop duo Grape Soda, art-rockers Twin Tigers and retro-rock band Koko Beware. All photos by Clayton Carr.
