Minneapolis label Totally Gross National Product used this party to show the Big City folks what a wide-range of artists they’ve been able to quickly gather up in their stable. One of our plants claimed Pony Bwoy sounded like a “trip-hop Martian;” P.O.S. had the place jumping nearly out of control; and Lizzo and her rapid-rhyme spew commanded the stage like a pro. And Cloak Ox churned out tricky, slick guitar progressions. Overall, while the acts all exhibited an affinity for some side-sound from the ’80s, they also had the sizzling energy and badass attitude of acts that just formed last month and were psyched to be playing CMJ.
