Last year’s Ball was a notorious slop storm of muggy rain. But the rock gods were in a much better weather mood this year. Governors Ball 2014 was an absolute success, packed to the brim for its three days, also aided by much smoother transportation to Randall’s Island via ferry and bus. the crowd seemed to go most insane for Saturday’s lineup (also the best weather overall), with the Strokes, somewhat surprisingly, having perhaps the biggest crowd of the fest, which they earned with an excellent set. Though it has been growing incrementally each year since its 2011 inception, Govenors Island still a bit of a homers gathering.

Jack White was impressive as usual. And Damon Albarn, Interpol, Phoenix, the Kills, Empire Of The Sun, Grimes, La Roux, Janelle Monae, Skaters, Drowners were just of a few of the highlight sets. Add in loads of cotton candy, balloons, big art, a general carnival vibe and oodles of fashionistas sweating through their latest summer duds, it was all a site to see. Governors Ball is quickly becoming yet another reason not to blow all your savings to fly to Coachella every year.
