The annual Conflict Of Interest party kicked off the 2011 CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival last night. This year’s party was held at Rebel NYC and put on by the Syndicate and Taco Bell’s Feed The Beat. Clearly people heeded the
advice to come early, as there was a line down the block well before doors opened at 7 p.m.

The venue filled up quickly, as people flocked to the bar for drink specials from Lagunitas, Ty Ku Vodka and Asahi (how many places can you find Lagunitas IPA for $2?). Although it was packed, the environment was so friendly, and it seemed like everyone there knew each other in some way. Some college radio people and radio promoters finally were able to put faces to the voices they speak to each week.

Bands started playing around 8 p.m. The lineup featured performances from the Young Evils, Boy And Bear, Walk The Moon and Chiddy Bang, as well as DJ sets from Body Language, Penguin Prison, the Knocks and Xaphoon Jones. With multiple floors and rooms, there were plenty of things going on at once to check out.

For anyone coming out early to the Marathon, it was a good night for meeting up with old friends and making new ones. If the Conflict Of Interest party set the tone for CMJ 2011, it’s certainly going to be a great week.
