Of course the Black Angels’ singer/guitarist, Christian Bland, decided to play on Syd Barrett’s birthday. He brought out his side project, the Revelators, for a night of dirgy deference to the Pink Floyd founder’s legacy.
Locals Ghost Wolves started out the night with their slamming fuzz. The two-piece have been around for a little while, and didn’t disappoint the natives in the crowd with their high-energy set. Holy Wave came from El Paso and started to stretch out the evening’s fuzzy psych-garage soundings to louder proportions, adding some cool lighting loopiness, setting it up perfectly for Bland.
Christian Bland And The Revelators started out with a few solid Pink Floyd covers while the lightshow mind-bending continued. And as they got into their originals, the evening got as far-out, loud, and just a bit more sinister as Bland’s fans no doubt desired. The crowd loved it, and somewhere Syd Barrett probably dug it too.
