Radio Relations Manager

CMJ is seeking an eager self-starter with an outgoing demeanor to join our college radio department. The Radio Relations Manager will serve as the primary liaison to CMJ’s radio community to establish a strong relationship with all CMJ radio affiliates, aiming to improve the quality of service and community we can offer radio stations. He or she will assist in the development of CMJ’s radio department and online user services, and assist in all radio-focused programming at CMJ Music Marathon. He or she will also manage CMJ’s catalogue of data, input new information, and calculate CMJ’s weekly charts, and ideate, pitch and create editorial content relevant to radio and CMJ’s audience for publication on Duties will also include, but are not limited to, securing occasional underwriting on CMJ station affiliates, ensuring the proper execution of contracts, and keeping detailed records. Candidate must be comfortable speaking on with clients and affiliates via telephone.
Impeccable written and spoken communication skills and proper phone etiquette are essential. Familiarity with CMJ’s radio department and CMJ Music Marathon, and experience in college radio very strongly preferred.

Registration Director

CMJ is looking to hire an organized, reliable and motivated Registration Director for the 2014 CMJ Music Marathon held October 21-25 2014 in New York City.

The primary duties of the Registration Director will be to develop and maintain a complete database of all registered attendees. This will include coordinating with all festival departments to ensure collection of all partner, client and guest registration information.


* Organize set-up of registration hall including all badge pick-up areas

* Oversee registration hall volunteers and employees throughout the week

* Manage badge distribution systems to ensure a timely and organized traffic flow and trouble-shoot as needed


* Impeccable data organization skills and extreme attention to detail

* Prior event production/coordination experience; Ticketing experience a plus

* Ability to work under tight deadlines and accommodate last-minute changes

Editorial Assistant

CMJ is seeking an Editorial Assistant for the 2014 CMJ Music Marathon. This is a writing-intensive position, which would involve the following duties leading up to, during and briefly following the event:

* Copywriting/editing news posts, press releases, email blasts, social media copy, etc.
* Managing content (text, photos, news posts, etc.) on festival website to keep all event information consistent and up-to-date
* Assisting in developing and managing social media content
* Writing and developing special features (print and video interviews, long-form pieces, preview pieces, etc.)
* Copywriting/editing schedule and event information included in the print Festival Guide
* Writing festival correspondence, such as outreach to speakers, confirmation letters, etc.
* Copyediting conference information (panel copy, panelist info, etc.) for both web and print

* Knowledge of WordPress and basic HTML skills required
* Highly organized and can work well under tight deadlines
* Social media management experience a plus
* Background in music, entertainment and/or media a plus

Panel Content Director

CMJ Music Marathon is seeking a Panel Content Director with expertise in various areas of the music business, technology and pop culture to direct and execute content for the 2014 CMJ Music Marathon conference panel program.


Applicants must be fully up to speed on the nature of today’s evolving music and media business, possess wide-ranging industry relationships and be passionate about building dynamic programming for the conference attendees.

Panel topics include the emerging music industry and its artists, music marketing, digital technology and culture, songwriting, promotion, rights-based issues, production, engineering, social networking, music supervision, commercial, public and college radio (terrestrial, satellite and internet), music law, publishing, licensing, and the international music landscape, as well as related cultural, technological and political topics.

* Conceptualize, design and implement panel content
* Research and outreach to appropriate representatives and speakers for panelist and moderator placement
* Review and placement of appropriate panelist and panel content submissions
* Assist festival Executive Producer in determining speakers and panels
* Coordinate logistics of festival staff, venues and facilities with planning staff

* 4+ years of professional experience
* Extensive knowledge of current and relevant music/media/technology products, services and related issues, developments and entities
* Outstanding organizational skills
* Strong copywriting and communication skills
* Experience managing a staff in a high pressure environment

Editorial Intern

CMJ is seeking fall 2014 editorial interns. Interns will be expected to play an active role in CMJ’s editorial team by pitching and contributing news, reviews, live coverage and sometimes features. Other duties will also include, but are not limited to, organizing editorial calendar, fact-checking and content management. This is a writing-intensive position.

  • Graphic Designer

    CMJ is seeking a Graphic Designer for the 2014 CMJ Music Marathon. We’re looking for candidates who have a strong background in graphic design, are team players who are passionate about graphic design (and music!), are comfortable working in a social office environment and are able to juggle tasks and work independently.

    Duties include:
    * Leading special development projects. We have lots of ideas, and we could use you to take the reigns on something that speaks to your talents.
    * Laying out our weekly digital magazine (occasionally includes cover design) and email blasts.

    Preferred skills:
    * A good eye for typography, type hierarchy and photographic composition.
    * Able to create fun, energetic but clean and clear designs.
    * Photoshop – retouching (clone stamp, healing brush tool, magnetic lasso, etc.), resizing and cropping files, color balance, exporting for the web, print pre-production, creating simple animated GIFs
    * Illustrator
    * InDesign – understanding of character/paragraph styles, basic layout, creating print-ready PDFs
    * Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS and WordPress or similar CMS
