After Kirin J Callinan took the stage of Music Hall of Williamsburg last night, the room was flooded with glitchy, dark prog-metal that seemed an unusual fit for the electro-pop and R&B scheduled for later in the night. But as Callinan’s set went on, things turned in a more beat-driven direction, and the theatrical musician stripped down to some printed pajamas, which he wore underneath a suit. Up next, Empress Of showed impressive vocal range throughout her performance. And Kelela had the crowd swooning under dim lighting with her crisp, soulful vox. She noted how great it was to play to people who actually knew her music—a result of the release of her debut mixtape, Cut 4 Me, at the start of this month. Glasser closed out the night with luxury-electro hits from her recently released LP, Interiors.
