El Imperial

El Imperial is the best place in Mexico City to see newer, up-and-coming indie bands from Mexico. El Imperial also records bands’ live sets and releases them as albums on its own record label.

Teatro Metropolitan

Teatro Metropolitan is my favorite place to see music in Mexico City. It is a beautiful old opera house from the 1800s that seats about 3,500 people. Metropolitan has great sound—I saw Jamie Cullum there, and it was so cool.

Zinco Jazz Club

Zinco is tiny—it only holds about 150 people—so the performances are really intimate. The venue is actually in the old vaults of a bank and is decorated very art deco, so it is a cool thing to see as well. They also have great food.
