Alex Calder
Alex Calder on KVCU
Alex Calder’s (who once played drums with Mac DeMarco) gossamer reverb, chill and poppy mid-’60s jaunts roll smoothly into the Lou Reed-style vocals. And yes, his dizzying tracks have gotten love this week from New York’s WNYU and Milwaukee’s WMSE, too, but I first noticed the brief but addictive EP Time (out this week on Captured Tracks) in the No. 15 place on KVCU’s top 30.
Riot Gosling on CJSW
Topping CJSW’s RPM chart this week is Montreal beat-maker and pun-named Riot Gosling—although take note that Riot Gosling doesn’t share much in the sound department with other punny-named bands like P.S. Eliot or Truman Peyote—who also has a track called, yeah, really, “Hey Gurl.” Meme friendly? Sure. But can you still put your head down, dance and get lost in the looping beats? Absolutely.
