In Scene Report, musicians from all over the globe fill us in on what’s going on sonically in their hometowns. This week Naoko of Shonen Knife gives the scoop on Osaka, Japan.

There is no definite scene in Osaka. Each band is acting and playing as they want. Shonen Knife is like that, and Boredoms are the same. Bands who got major contracts, most of all move to Tokyo. Shonen Knife are staying in Osaka, though. Boredoms, too. The trend of these years in Osaka “scene” was that teenage bands played stupid J-Pop taste songs with lyrics of love. Recently, I can see some cool bands whose roots are American or British rock music like Futsu No Shiawase (ordinary happy) or Red Sneakers. I think it is a good trend.
