In Scene Report, musicians from all over the globe fill us in on what’s going on sonically in their hometowns. This week Shades Of Gray gives us the scoop on Prague, Czech Republic. Their new album, Unlock The Rhythm, is out April 7 on Beef Records.
After a decline in the electronic music scene, we are now seeing a little “renaissance” here in Prague. Even though our electronic music scene can’t be compared to Berlin, London or Amsterdam it got a kickstart recently and now we see more and more quality music events as a result. Some parties are really small, some a bit bigger. It will be interesting to see what will happen in the next three or four years. I personally see the future as very bright.
There is a new generation of young people who are searching for quality events/concerts with an underground and artistic feel to them. These people are now becoming immune to cheap advertising/promoter methods of overpriced events, VIP bullshit, stage separations and fake tan “superstar” DJs. There are also more foreigners living in Prague now. These expats are bringing their culture to our capital, and the culture and way of living is becoming less uptight and more hedonistic as a result. We have groups of switched-on promoters who found their niche market and focus on bringing quality acts to the Czech Republic. There are often issues with budgets and financing the events, but most of these new promoters don’t do events to become rich and drive Hummers!
