In Scene Report, musicians from all over the globe fill us in on what’s going on sonically in their hometowns. This week Nneka, whose Soul Is Heavy LP came out yesterday on Decon, gives the scoop on Lagos, Nigeria.

Lagos, the former Federal Capital of Nigeria, is a densely populated city of over 15 million people. Though Lagos is no longer the Federal Capital, it remains the economic centre of Nigeria. People from different states and ethnic backgrounds migrate to Lagos in search of economic prosperity, which explains why the city is so vibrant, as you have a mixture of different people, culture and tradition.

We are currently experiencing a reemergence or transformation in the Nigerian music industry. It has become a liable and legitimate source of income, as local content has become more in demand than foreign music.
