In Scene Report, musicians from all over the globe fill us in on what’s going on sonically in their hometowns. This week, Mr Bird gives the scoop on Lisbon, Portugal. Mr Bird’s latest album, Bird Bird Bird, is out now on Psychonavigation.

Lisbon in Portugal is my adopted hometown. I’m originally from Newcastle Upon Tyne in the U.K., but I’ve been living here for nearly four years now in the most Westerly capital in Europe, slowly absorbing the Portuguese sunsets and nightlife, which starts late and goes on until the sun comes up and beyond.

Lisbon is a very vibrant city where you can listen to a very wide selection of music, including traditional Portuguese fado, house, indie, disco, funk, hip-hop, soul, kuduro, techno, drum and bass, African, Brazilian—it’s a real musical melting pot, and it’s also great as a musician and producer to be surrounded by great musicians, DJs, sounds, sights and experiences. From the busy bar neighborhood of Bairro Alto, to the now-bustling bars and clubs of the Cais Do Sodré area (where you can eat, drink and dance until lunchtime the next day if you are so inclined), to smoky jazz clubs and outdoor concerts, there is always stuff going on to suit even the most eclectic of tastes.
