In Scene Report, musicians from all over the globe fill us in on what’s going on sonically in their hometowns. This week, Lovers give us the scoop on Portland, Oregon. Lovers’ new album, A Friend In The World, will be released on September 24 via Badman Recording Co.

Portland has always been known as a great place to play music. The affordability and livability of the city makes it an appealing environment for artists, especially musicians who don’t depend on the local economy to support themselves. The scene is incredibly supportive and varied. Over the years, there has been much movement and change especially in the punk, DIY, queer, and feminist music scenes. We see bands playing more and more electronic music, and exploring other mediums such as film and dance within their music performances.
