In Scene Report, musicians from all over the globe fill us in on what’s going on sonically in their hometowns. This week, Francisco “KB” Nazca, singer/guitarist of the sprawling, big-sky psych-rockers La Hell Gang, tells us about Santiago, Chile. Their sophomore LP, Thru Me Again, floats in via Mexican Summer on July 22.
In our hometown of Santiago, a powerful scene of psychedelia started in the mid-2000s. Bands like the Ganjas, Cindy Sisters (my first band), Watch Out! and Follakzoid all appeared around the same time. After Cindy Sisters, we started to play as La Hell Gang in early 2009. Later, The Holydrug Couple came to Santiago, then others like Acid Call, La Bandas, Psychedelic Shafferson Jetplane, Chicos de Nazca and False Sir Nicholas. You can find all these bands on BYM Records. All of this was like a rebirth of the scene that was here 40 years ago, before the dictatorship.
