In Scene Report, musicians from all over the globe fill us in on what’s going on sonically in their hometowns. This week Dave Drobach of the Grabass Charlestons gives the scoop on Gainesville, FL. The band’s latest album, Dale And The Careeners, is out now on No Idea.

We just survived Fest 11 weekend. Those of you who come through on any other weekend will see a different side of Gainesville. Lots of diversity in sound, diversity in ages. Lots of punk-owned businesses.

“The Gainesville Sound” is a myth. Drunks with beards get highlighted here during the Fest. Mauser, Averkiou and Party Drag all live and make different kinds of music here. WGOT, Gainesville’s FCC-licensed low-power FM station, is celebrating five years of locally produced broadcasting in January. Tune in to 94.7 FM when you drive in, or stream it online at WGOT.org. Also check out locally produced live internet stream GrowRadio.org.
