In Scene Report, musicians from all over the globe fill us in on what’s going on sonically in their hometowns. This week, Steve Bays and Parker Bossley of Fur Trade give us the scoop on Vancouver, Canada. Fur Trade’s new album, Don’t Get Heavy, comes out July 23 via Last Gang.

In my experiences in Vancouver, I’ve seen a tight music scene that’s surprisingly unpretentious. Bands often swap members on a weekly basis. We’ve got a few local record labels that are starting to spill some money into local acts, as well as a lot of support from local radio stations. It’s definitely a good vibe being in Vancouver, but it can be difficult for bands to get noticed outside of the city. I personally find living by the ocean and mountains inspiring, and it offers a certain amount of spiritual and mental freedom that most of the larger cities aren’t offering to me—at least not right now. I’m happy here.
