In Scene Report, musicians from all over the globe fill us in on what’s going on sonically in their hometowns. This week Fernando Lagreca gives the scoop on Barcelona, Spain.
Barcelona is of course a city where a lot of things happen every day, also in musical terms. The special character of Catalan life is centered in Barcelona and its creativity. Home of Sónar and Primavera Sound, just to name a couple of outstanding festivals, Barcelona is where you go to find, buy and listen to good electronic indie music that shares the Mediterranean mood; however, it is not easy to find local venues where new bands can perform, since in Spain it is more common to give more chances to play to foreign bands than the locals. So, in terms of a local scene, perhaps we are at the beginning of the road.
In spite of this, there are a lot of bands emerging day by day, and there are a lot of rehearsal places with a lot of music being made and a lot of parties happening. This results in Barcelona winning the award of the non-sleep city.
