In Scene Report, musicians from all over the globe fill us in on what’s going on sonically in their hometowns. This week Céu gives us the scoop on São Paulo, Brazil.
São Paulo is a metropolis with 20 million inhabitants, the largest and most populous city in Brazil. Musicians from all over the country comes here to work, building the local music scene by mixing all kinds of different rhythms. Maracatu, brega, hip-hop, rock and samba are all mixed together by artists and bands that can be heard in the city’s night life.
A lot of important new artists come to São Paulo to produce some of their albums. The main reason for all those artists coming to live in São Paulo is because the city is where musicians can find gigs and opportunities to work. I don’t really think that São Paulo has a specific scene or sound, just a lot of talented artists from all over Brazil coming here to work and mixing their music with each other. Maybe the reason is that there are too little opportunities in other Brazilian cities and São Paulo has become the new financial center.
