In Scene Report, musicians from all over the globe fill us in on what’s going on sonically in their hometowns. This week, Ryan Graveface of the Casket Girls gives us the scoop on Savannah, GA. Their upcoming LP, True Love Kills The Fairy Tale, is out February 11 via Graveface.
I moved to Savannah, GA out of nowhere in Oct of 2010. I visited briefly once before while on tour with BMSR a year prior and knew I had to get out of Chicago. I adore(d) Chicago, but had some awful things go down in my personal life and needed an escape. When I visited Savannah for a day back in 2009 I was super intrigued by it. It made very little sense to me coming from Chicago. Although I just went on a ghost tour, ate some subpar food, drove around and looked at the architecture, I knew it would make a good home. What I was unaware of at the time was how radical the music scene is. It’s fascinating. Radical bands like Kylesa, Baroness, Black Tusk, Cusses and several others have broken through but there is a deep well here that needs to be explored. Here’s a very, very small sampling of what’s going on in Savannah.
