Lafayette’s longstanding trend is the cross-pollination of its traditional and contemporary music scenes. Sometimes this happens subversively within each musical world when progressive Cajun artists like Feufollet and The Lost Bayou Ramblers update traditional Cajun songs with experimental pop and rock bombast. Sometimes it happens overtly when artists from either camp collaborate directly to form new bands, cover each other’s songs, or rediscover old ideas. However it happens, it’s a constant evolution that’s defined south Louisiana’s musical identity since D.L. Menard heard Hank Williams and invented modern Cajun music.
