Each week the CMJ staff sifts through thousands of radio playlists that contribute to our weekly charts. In the new Chart Discovery weekly column, we’ll highlight exciting artists, albums and songs brought to our attention by the charts of our reporting panel of college and non-commercial radio stations. This week’s favorites come from Barnard’s WBAR in New York City and community station CFCR in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Tony Molina on WBAR

The young label Melters released just 500 copies of his LP Dissed And Dismissed in February, but Tony Molina, formally of the now-defunct San Francisco band Ovens, has created a clever collection of early-’90s throwbacks mixed with metalhead shoegaze—none of which reaches the two-minute mark.

Wizards on CFCR

CFCR supports hometown band the Wizards (not to be confused with ELO buddy band Wizzard, despite songs about “going to the moon”), whose psychedelic surf sounds bring sunny warmth to the wintry parkland.
