Each week the CMJ staff sifts through thousands of radio playlists that contribute to the weekly CMJ charts. In the Chart Discovery column, we highlight exciting artists, albums and songs brought to our attention by the charts of our reporting panel of college and non-commercial radio stations. This round’s picks come via KCPR in San Luis Obispo, CA, and WWVU in Morgantown, WV.

Trance Farmers on KCPR

A little bit of twang and a lot of dreamy psych-pop helped these L.A.-based dudes float right up the charts to the No. 10 spot on KCPR’s Top 30 Chart this week. Their debut album, Dixie Caps, drops next week and is sure to leave us with little doubt about what kind of farming these guys are into.

False Pterodactly on WWVU

Using only an acoustic guitar and a couple drums, False Pterodactyl pack a punch on their brand new album, Sweet Jesus! Their grungy, acoustic punk has been receiving some hometown love on WWVU, showing up at No. 17 on their Top 30 chart this week.
