Each week the CMJ staff sifts through thousands of radio playlists that contribute to the weekly CMJ charts. In the Chart Discovery column, we highlight exciting artists, albums, and songs brought to our attention by the charts of our reporting panel of college and non-commercial radio stations. This round’s favorites come to us via WMUA in Amherst, MA, WRAS in Atlanta, and KBOO in Portland, OR.

Szjerdene on WMUA

The silky tongued Bonobo collaborator debuts at No. 7 on WMUA’s New World chart with her single Linger Well. The track, recorded at Amsterdam’s Red Bull Studios in 2013, is an interpolation of fellow U.K. producer Throwing Snow’s similarly-titled jazz jam, Lingerwell.

Seeing DIBIA$E’s name squeak onto WRAS’s chart at No. 30 turned us on to the L.A. artist’s latest sample-laden album, Excuse The Tape Hiss, which is loaded with the crazy-sexy-cool sounds of a lounge lizard’s beat machine.

Inutili on KBOO

Inutili’s psychedelic excursion, Music To Watch The Clouds On A Sunny Day, landed them at No. 19 place on KBOO’s chart. It’s always impressive to see tracks the length of a network television sitcom in heavy rotation on non-commercial radio, and this is no exception. It sets the stage for a sunny day spent swaying through stoner rock trenches before sprawling upon a grassy patch to watch animal-shaped clouds roll through the sky.
